People Are Too Attached To Phones

📕 360 words ⏳ 3 min.

In recent times, many people have said this: from other blosters to large news outlets. This is the modern day issue, and I think it’s a big one. The media focus on kids being addicted to their phones, but I’m going to keep things generic, because it’s not just kids.

People are addicted to their phones.

Period, there is no way to dispute this claim, people are addicted to their phones. The statement is not saying everyone, and I accept that not everyone is addicted to their phones, but a large majority are.

So, what is it that’s so addicting and why have things changed?

I think, generally speaking, it’s social media, like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter (X for those weirdos), BlueSky, etc. Places where you can just sit and scroll for hours with a load of content on hand. (I think even the Fediverse could fall into this category, but it’s also the easiest way to avoid the issue - no algorithm pushing things to you, you are more likely to pop on, scroll for a little bit then come off it). Social media is a big problem in a lot of different ways, but that’s a topic for another day.

A lot of the time it’s media consumption — TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, SnapChat stories, YouTube, streaming services. I was at a zoo the other day and we ate in the restaurant, almost every single young child had their parents phone in front of them watching some kids TV series. I feel that this being done from such an early age is so bad, it ingrains the use of phones in kids minds — leading to them being glued to them all the time as they grow up. I even saw a young worker who was working just walking through the place on their phone, not looking up at all.

I think the world is going to grind to a halt one day and noone will know why, well, this could be a big one.

Anyway, that’s enough rambling for one day, hope you enjoyed a non professional ramble about this topic. Have a good one. BYEEE!!!
