Return to Minecraft

📕 908 words ⏳ 7 min.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been getting back into playing Minecraft. I have played Minecraft since circa ~2016. I was prompted back to MC by starting to watch season 11 of Hermitcraft, a survival multiplayer (SMP) server consisting of a variety of content creators (streamers and “YouTubers”) who are experts in their own areas (redstone, building and PvP/PvE). I saw all the fun they were having and decided to get back into it.

I installed a nice FOSS launcher, one that my brother recommended to me, called ATLauncher, which also allows me to install mods from within the launcher, without the need to download .jar files from websites such as Modrinth or Curseforge (it uses these but does the downloading for you). It’s got themes for the launcher and allows for multiple instances of multiple or the same game version. Mods are installed per instance, added in the instances page.

In terms of the game itself and what I have been up to, I have currently 3 single-player survival worlds. 2 of which I can delete without any sadness or regret as I wanted to start a Minecraft YouTube series from day one in game but I never did hit record in either of those worlds, so for 3 days it was 1 world per day, much like my old way of distrohopping every other day. I finally hit record and had a lot of fun playing with the world I am in now. I went exploring and did some mining in the hopes of getting to full iron gear (armour and tools); and I happened apon a lush cave (a cave filled with glow vines and moss and little pockets of water surrounded by clay, where, once I had explored deep enough and reached deep slate, I found a single block sticking out. Diamond ore.

Or to be more precise, a vein of 5 diamond ore blocks. Luckily I had found enough iron prior to this and had been smelting it up to create an iron pickaxe and mined them giving me 5 diamonds on day one. The first thing that I crafted with said diamonds (after a brief grace period of a few days, during which time they were sat in a chest), was an axe. A diamond axe which is to this day, sitting in a chest within my starter base. I have also used the remaining two diamonds since then and crafted a diamond sword which I am using to fend against monsters that are spawning around my base.

Speaking of my starter base, I tried to find somewhere that I could make a nice little base to get myself started with everything I could need. During my travels to explore the world, I found an island with a mushroom base in the ocean right next to a mountain. I built dark oak plank walls and eventually expanded out this base to connect with the mountain island. I added some dirt and a 3x1 block of water and began a small wheat farm to then be able to craft bread as a food source. I setup a mine, where I simply dug down into the mountain and came across more iron, over the course of a couple of 20+ minutes trips, I ended up with over 2 stacks of raw iron which I then smelted into over 2 stacks of iron ingots. I was officially set for a while. I had iron tools, full iron armour with plenty of iron left over. I haven’t been into my mine since. - Though I really should, I am currently rocking, close to breaking iron armour and shield and a set of stone tools; I need more iron really and maybe some diamonds would be nice.

I created a little storage room which was powered by a copper gollum which was an alright system, but this is being improved upon with my new mini-mega base which is a collection of connected domes made of stone, lovingly referred to as the Stone Dome. The main section of my base will be in a tower section in the middle, a 3 floor tower with a glass domed roof (which took a long time to perfect and actually get into a dome shape.

Connected off one side, via a covered tunnel is my storage dome. A dome with the pure function of being my storage room. Currently it is not a dome and is going to be getting torn down to correct it into a dome shape - it currently looks more like an aztec temple/messed up pyramid than a dome. The chests system will be mostly manual with a copper gollum on hand to assist if I am too busy. I am currently just dumping things into the closest chests to me while I work on construction of the new base.

My old base is slowly but surely being decommissioned and torn down for resources as things are being moved over to my new Stone Dome; with only a few bits left there, things are progressing well and I should have everything fully removed and be just my new base, in a short period of time.

Conclusion

I have been having fun with Minecraft and this world, making a YouTube series (of which episode 4 is releasing in just over an hour). Anyway, that’s it for today, I’ll catch you in the next one. BYEEE!!!
