Favorite Moments, themes, and characters
I loved the whole book, absolutely amazing.
One of my favourite themes in the book is the comradery between all the characters. The way the crew of the Canaar were before the crash, the interactions between Brother Cavil and Ray, the teamwork of the Consortium fleet when faced with an immense challenge. It really gave me hope that they would be successful and defeat the Bael.
One of my favourite characters has got to be Ga’an. The former praetor of the Nucteel fleet from ancient times — making him the last known Ancient living alongside humans. He struggled in the beginning with understanding humans and their many quirks compared to his own species, but he grows so much during the book and ends up being a great leader when Admiral Conway was struggling to keep the win in their grasps. The other characters were great too, but I definitely had more of a connection with Ga’an.
Problems With the Book
I didn’t have many gripes with the book, my biggest one was that at some points, the story was a lot slower than at other points.
Another problem I had with the book was trying to figure out how to pronounce some of the names of things — probably a me problem but it was a struggle — not a surprise in a sci-fi book but it did affect the reading experience a little bit.
Who’s This Book For?
I would recommend this book to sci-fi enjoyers and people who like a good space battle with aliens.
