Joining the Casio Cult

A few weeks ago, I started looking into getting a Casio watch to replace my Apple Watch SE (2024). On Monday, I finally bit the bullet and used a £15 Amazon gift card (I got for Christmas from a colleague at work) to buy one. I looked at a whole load of different ones but I eventually settled on the Casio F-91W. A nice, small, simple digital watch that tells the time.

Why Switch From A Smart Watch?

Well, it's quite simple and comes down to a couple of reasons.

  1. Smart watches aren't that smart.

Yes, that's right. Smart watches just aren't smart. No smarter than smartphones are smart. They do what you tell it to, just as with non-smart technology. It just uses a more complicated software/system to do the same things.

  1. . I only want and need the time.

The main thing I used my Apple Watch for was to see what the current time is (wow, a shocker that a watch is used for seeing the time). This was my main motivation to finally getting a simple digital watch. I have always loved seeing the time in the HH:MM:SS format which some smart watch faces can do but not all. I even have my desktops (when I can), setup with this time format in the bar/panel.

  1. Smart watches are heavy.

Smart watches are basically computers on your wrists, which makes them bulky and heavy (compared with simple digital and analogue watches). I got tired of lugging a heavy watch on my wrist and wanted something lighter.

My Casio Experience Thus Far

My watch arrived on Thursday and I got it setup in less than 10 minutes and fell in love at first site. It was really rather simple. Below is a picture I took of my watch once I had it all setup (slightly edited to remove my arm/wrist from the picture as I am quite a private person alien).

I have worn my watch for a couple of days now and I love it, sometimes forget that it's there because it's so lightweight and comfortable (see my list of reasons for switching from a smart watch numero 3 for more context on this sentiment).

I am thoroughly enjoying it and can't wait for the many years, maybe decades I will have this watch for.

And that's all that can really be said about me getting a new watch, I am keeping my Apple Watch but I won't be taking care of it's battery nor will be wearing it. Anyway, that's it from me for this one, have a good one.
