Spinning slowly, Bobilly maintained a semblance of control — just about — as they slowly descended to the ground. Alarms blaring with Bobilly’s head darted from side to side, trying to figure out what the problem was. Dashad sat back and let him do his thing.
Probably best I don’t get involved, they thought.
“Dammit”, Bobilly erupted suddenly. “The engines have cut out, we’re just gliding at this point.”
Dashad was concerned to say the least, he grabbed the arms of his seat hard as another jolt rocked the whole craft, as its decent stopped as suddenly as it had begun. The spiralling also stopped and Bobilly and Dashad looked around to try to find what had stopped them. Most of the alarms went silent as the pair looked up and saw a larger craft above them. The radio crackled to life.
“zz You seemed to be in a spot of bother zz”, the voice at the other end of the communication said, “zz We’ll take you in safely zz”.
Dashad still looked concerned, “Take us in, take us in where?”
The panic was clear in their voice. Bobilly remained unperturbed by the goings on around him. It was now that Snoogle emerged for the first time, since departing the spaceport, from his hiding place in Dashad’s rucksack.
From just below the visible horizon over the cockpit window, a beautiful view of orange and blue appeared, a sensation of amazement swept through the small cockpit as the radio crackled again.
“zz Welcome to Ares spaceport, you’re safe now. zz”, the voice crackled away. This sent questions through Dashad’s mind — Ares, where’s that?, Why did this mysterious voice and craft save us?, Are we really safe? Only to be interrupted by the slight bounce as they safely touched down on the surface. Their mind raced, hyper focusing on the last question specifically, Are we really safe?, a thought that was shared with the pilot as well.
Dashad pulled out a tablet device from their rucksack and began typing away. This was their journal, they had written everything of their plan and now wrote of the journey so far and the unexpected outcome. As they did so, a face appeared at the windshield.
KNOCK KNOCK!!!
